Hearts' interim head coach Stevie Frail has not sought to clarify his future despite mixed messages from chairman Roman Romanov.
Romanov, son of majority shareholder Vladimir, told shareholders that a more experienced manager was being sought - and that Frail deserved a chance.
"I have not spoken to Mr Romanov regarding what is happening next season," said Frail.
"It has just been a case of doing what I've been asked to do."
Frail was handed the reins at the start of the year and results have improved under his stewardship.
But Hearts missed out on a top-six finish in the Scottish Premier League and it is still unclear what the future holds for the former right-back.
"It's boring for you, I know, but I have been asked to take it since January to the end of the season and see what happens," he said ahead of Saturday's match against Inverness.
"If I am here next season then great. It doesn't bother me."
