Hearts' capture of Hughes delayed
Leicester midfielder Stephen Hughes
Stephen Hughes had originally rejected a move back to Scotland
Hearts will continue talks over the weekend in their pursuit of midfielder Stephen Hughes from Leicester City.

The 24-year-old had a medical on Thursday evening, but agreement could not be reached to allow him to make his debut against Gretna on Saturday.

Hughes, who joined the Foxes from Rangers in January 2005, was placed on the transfer list in May.

The player was unwilling to move back to Scotland last month but now appears to favour a move to Tynecastle.

Leicester had accepted 50,000 offers from Hearts and Motherwell last month, but the player failed to agree personal terms on a move.

Hearts assistant manager Steven Frail said: "We're hopeful that Stephen will come in - there's no deal done at the moment.

"There are a few more days until the transfer window closes.

"So it's ongoing and one which would be a boost to the squad if we manage to bring him in.

"I know he can play wide on the right and there are a number of positions he can play."
