Romanov wants to sign Beniusis, according to the player |
Hearts are stepping up their chase for FBK Kaunas striker Ricardas Beniusis. Vladimir Romanov, Hearts' majority shareholder, told the player he will sign him as soon as Kaunas are knocked out of the Champions League.
Beniusis, 27, told the Edinburgh Evening News he had held talks with Romanov over a possible loan deal.
Kaunas could face Rangers in the Champions League's first qualifying round and Beniusis said he could move to Tynecastle before 31 August.
The Lithuanians face FC Zeta of Montenegro later this month and, if successful, will progress to meet Rangers in the next round.
Beniusis said he was interested in a possible move to the Scottish Premier League.
 | (Romanov) said the move will happen 100% after Kaunas' Champions League campaign is over |
"I spoke with Mr Romanov and I told him I need to know some details on my future. He said: 'don't worry, everything will work out well. We want to try you in Scotland.'
"He said the move will happen 100% after Kaunas' Champions League campaign is over.
"Two years ago I was in Scotland for training and now it's difficult for me to believe I could be a Hearts player.
"I think it needs some time to sink in. I don't know if it will happen in two weeks time or a month or whatever."
Hearts already have a number of Lithuanian players on their books, with 10 in the Edinburgh club's first-team squad by the end of last season.
