Hartlepool United assistant Ian Butterworth praised the contribution of new signing Alan Thompson after Tuesday's 4-3 victory over Southend. Thompson only joined up with his team-mates hours earlier but Butterworth believes the winger was a key factor in Pools' improved display.
He told BBC Tees: "Alan's been around the block, he's got a good left foot."
"We got 70 minutes out of him tonight, let's hope we get a bit more out of him next week."
Butterworth was also pleased to see the return of Australian striker Joel Porter whose injury problems have blighted his season so far.
He said: "Joel hasn't set the world on fire this year but he's a good player and we need everybody firing on all cylinders.
"Hopefully he can get a run of games now and show what a good player he is."
