Colin Todd has been linked with the Hartlepool job |
Hartlepool chairman Ken Hodcroft has confirmed the Second Division club will appoint their new manager within the next two weeks. The newly-promoted club sacked boss Mike Newell at the end of May after a poor finish to the season which cost them the championship.
Several big names, including Colin Todd, Nigel Clough and Chris Waddle are reported to have applied for the position, but Hodcroft says Pool will not mention anyone until they name the new man.
"There has been a lot of speculation about who has applied, but we won't be making any comment," he told the club's official website.
"We can confirm that not all the names put forward by the media have applied.
"We've had a couple of dozen serious applications for the job and we'll be arranging first interviews in the near future.
"We will be looking to make an appointment within the next two weeks.
"I realise that the fans are anxious for us to name the new manager, but we need to be comfortable with the final decision.
"This is an important stage of the club's Second Division future," Hodcroft added.
