Hamilton Accies almost a good side, says manager Reid

Reid believes Hamilton need to make better decisions in the final third

Hamilton Accies manager Billy Reid feels his side are not far short of being the side they need to be.

Reid's men drew 1-1 with Hibernian at Easter Road, Marco Paixao scoring for the visitors a day before his and brother Flavio's birthday.

"We're a wee tiny bit from being a good side," Reid told BBC Scotland.

"If the Paixao twins pick the right pass at times, they can pick people up and if they improve in that department then we'll certainly score goals."

Marco Paixao was at fault for the loss of Hamilton's goal but recovered with the equaliser and he and Flavio caused problems for the hosts.

"The important thing is your reaction," said Reid. "You don't put your head down, you don't hide.

"And the one thing about the Paixao twins is they never hide. They're always looking for the ball, they're always working and they're a wee tiny bit away from being top, top players.

"I'm trying to stress to them to take the right option at times and play people in instead of being a wee bit slack.

"But they can be big, big players in the Premier League."

The draw in Leith means Accies have taken four points from their last two away fixtures, although they have still to pick anything up at home.

"I think, over the 90 minutes, a draw was a fair result," added Reid. "We were really disappointed in how we started the game.

"We've trained really well all week and had a game plan. And we came here and shot ourselves in the foot.

"The goal we gave away was suicidal and, once again, we find ourselves 1-0 down with five minutes gone and we've got to pick ourselves off the floor again and we did that.

"We were always a threat going forward. I thought Nigel Hasselbaink at times looked electric, he could open them up at will at times and get one-on-one with people. He played Marco Paixao in and he's put the ball in the net.

"We're delighted that we've got two stalwarts back in Mark McLaughlin and Elebert, it's made us stronger at the back.

"Performances have certainly improved, but we need to stop giving silly goals away.

"To give that goal away early on really frustrated me, but I'm looking for a reaction and I got the reaction off the players."
