Hamilton Accies boss Billy Reid admits midfielder James McArthur could leave the club during this transfer window.
McArthur, 22, is being tracked by several clubs, including Hull, and says he is interested in a move to England.
"A couple of clubs are showing big interest. There's a chance James could go this month," Reid told BBC Scotland.
McArthur said: "I'm not going to lie, I want to play in England at the highest level I can, and do the best for myself and my family."
BBC Scotland learned that Hull City are tracking McArthur and have had him watched on several occasions could make a bid during the January transfer window.
West Brom have also been linked with a move for McArthur, who made his Accies debut in January 2005.
McArthur, who has scored once this term, is contracted to the Scottish Premier League side until May 2011.
It would be a big blow to lose James but if nothing happens he will continue to give his all
Hamilton manager Bill Reid
"I take a bit of confidence that teams are impressed by you," said McArthur.
"But you can't let it go to your head. I've heard it all before about this move and that move, but in the meantime all I can do is play well for myself and Acceis.
"If anyone was to come in then I would have to sit down and seriously think about it."
Hamilton sold attacking midfielder James McCarthy to Wigan and full-back Brian Easton to Burnley in the summer.
And Reid recognises that as a factor which could influence any decision by McArthur.
"It would be a big blow to lose him," he said. "Alex Neil got injured and he's been immense as our captain.
"If nothing happens he'll continue to give his all for the team.
"But it must be difficult for him with his two pals going in the summer while he's been left behind."
