Cerny aims to remain at Hamilton

Hamilton's Czech Republic goalkeeper Tomas Cerny has told BBC Scotland that he is keen to play his football at New Douglas Park beyond this campaign.

The 23-year-old joined the Lanarkshire side on loan from SK Sigma Olomouc in August 2007, then extended the deal until the end of this season.

"I would prefer to stay at Hamilton. I am happy here," said Cerny.

"The club gave me the chance to play in the SPL. I am grateful for this and I would like to stay for next season."

The former Czech Republic Under-21 keeper has been in inspired form for Hamilton in their first season back in the Scottish Premier League.

In January, he kept five clean sheets and was awarded the Clydesdale Bank player of the month award.

But the Accies' form has dipped in recent weeks as they have dropped points and lost players through injury, a situation acknowledged by the Czech goalie.

"In the last three or four games we have been struggling due to so many injuries," he said.

"It is hard to cope with that, but I hope that we get through this as soon as possible.

"This is quite an extreme situation. I can't remember any club I have been at having eight players injured.

"But it's just the way it is just now and some guys are coming back and I hope that we will get through this."

Cerny has made 34 appearances this season and 50 in all since taking over the goalkeeping duties from Bryn Halliwell. He is determined to help his team avoid a relegation battle.

"The top six looked very hopeful maybe three or four weeks ago but we have to look behind us. Inverness have been doing well so we must win our games," said Cerny.

"We want to stay up in the league and obviously it would be nice to achieve it as soon as possible. That means winning the next few games to be safe."
