Iriekpen may now be on his way to Bristol City

Hamilton Accies have given up on their bid to bring defender Izzy Iriekpen to New Douglas Park.

The 26-year-old had agreed a move north after his Scunthorpe contract was terminated but has changed his mind.

"I spoke to Izzy last week and he told me he was coming," Accies manager Billy Reid told BBC Sport.

"But then I got a call last night from his agent telling me he was going to Bristol City. It's disappointing but that's the nature of the game."

Iriekpen is a former West Ham trainee who moved to Scunthorpe in 2007 following four seasons with Swansea.

"I knew he was a complex character but he was a decent player who would have added something to the squad," added Reid.

"We've got an eye on two or three players and hopefully we can do something there."
