Reid delighted as Accies go top

Hamilton manager Billy Reid
Reid watched his side battle back from losing an early goal

Hamilton manager Billy Reid was overjoyed by a fine opening win over Dundee United that sees the newly-promoted Accies go top of the SPL.

"I said we would bring a freshness to the SPL and we did that," Reid told BBC Sport after the 3-1 victory.

"But we have to keep doing that week-in, week-out and now we have to focus on the game at Inverness, who had a great win at the weekend.

"We're in with the big boys now and we are determined to enjoy it."

United went in front against the run of play when Mark McLaughlin diverted a Willo Flood cross into his own net.

But Hamilton responded brilliantly and were ahead by the interval thanks to goals from Tony Stevenson and James McArthur, while David Graham drilled in a smart shot on 62 minutes.

"I thought it was an entertaining game and we were great," added Reid.

"To go a goal down in the manner we did and to bounce back against a very good side says a lot about the players.

"I've said to the players 'enjoy it because there will be a few hits along the way'.

"It's all about how I, as a manager, and they, as players, progress from that."
