Grimsby are hoping to move away from their Blundell Park home |
Grimsby Town have submitted a planning application for a proposed new 20,000-seater stadium. North-East Lincolnshire Council is being asked to approve the plans for the new ground, which will be called the Conoco Stadium, at Great Coates.
The stadium scheme also involves commercial and leisure facilities and will, according to the club, create 350 full-time and 250 part-time jobs.
"We are excited to have reached this milestone," chairman John Fenty said.
"While the application is for the same scheme which was supported by the council in January 2001, a great deal of hard work has been carried out to bring the supporting information fully up to date."
The Mariners have played at their current Blundell Park home since 1899, but hope to move in time for the 2008/09 season.
