Wadsworth hope on Gretna future

Gretna caretaker manager Mick Wadsworth
Wadsworth said he hoped Gretna would survive

Gretna manager Mick Wadsworth said he had not given up hope the club would survive next season.

Gavin Skelton's goal secured a 1-0 win against Hearts in their final SPL game.

"I've heard a whisper, there is a package that has come together in the last couple of days," Wadsworth said of the club, who are in administration.

"We have had no information when the wages stop or what to do with redundancies. If the club survives, it will be a fresh start."

Wadsworth was delighted for Skelton, who has been with the club throughout their rise from the Unibond League to the SPL.

"It was a fairytale finish - good things happen to good people," the former Carlisle manager said.

"If anything was going to happen tonight and we were going to go out with a bang, then that guy deserves it, Gavin Skelton."

Gretna captain Paul Murray was making his last appearance for the club in the victory at Fir Park, as were goalkeeper Greg Fleming and Abdul Osman.

Loan signings Kyle Naughton, Ben Wilkinson, Artur Krysiak, Rhys Meynell and Rostyn Griffiths will to return to their respective clubs.
