Gretna spirit praised by manager

Gretna caretaker manager Mick Wadsworth

Gretna caretaker boss Mick Wadsworth hopes his young team can get a win before the end of the season after losing out to Inverness at Fir Park.

"I was asked if it was hard motivating the players but it's not because they are a smashing bunch of kids," Wadsworth said after the 2-1 defeat.

"They are just a joy and I just really, really wish we could get a result.

Not for the points, that's not a big issue any more, just for them because they so deserve it."

A mere 431 fans turned up to see Gretna lose for the 24th time in the league this season.

"I'm disappointed with the numbers," said Wadsworth.

"I couldn't be disappointed with the people who are here, they are a sensational bunch who you see wherever we go.

"But in a sense it's difficult, they are reading on ceefax that the game is in doubt so it puts them in doubt.

"Our supporters are 80 or 90 miles away so it's not an easy logistical exercise to come to a home game.

"Hopefully the fact we put in a performance will bring a few more on Wednesday."

With the club in administration, there have been doubts over the club's ability to complete their final five SPL fixtures.

However, after the defeat by Inverness Caledonian Thistle, first-team coach Ian Scott told BBC Sport that they have been assured by the administrator that Gretna will be able to complete their matches.

There may be further positive news for the club early next week.

Scott revealed: "There has been one bid made today. I do know there's an American company involved, but I'm not sure if it's them that's made that bid.

"One concrete bid has been lodged. What that amount is, I don't know. Whether that's acceptable, again I don't know, but we'll find out on Monday."
