Gretna face a struggle to see out their remaining fixtures

Gretna's home SPL fixture with Inverness on Saturday has been switched back to Motherwell's Fir Park.

The match had been due to be played at Almondvale because of the terrible state of the Fir Park pitch, where Gretna have been tenants this season.

However, Motherwell used their home turf to host Hibs last weekend and the SPL has deemed the ground suitable.

Relegated Gretna played their last 'home' fixture at Livingston's Almondvale, losing 3-0 to Celtic.

Meanwhile, the SPL will continue to monitor Gretna's perilous financial position.

A board meeting was called at Hampden to discuss the ailing club, who are in administration and seeking a new owner.

The SPL insist they are doing everything they can to keep Gretna in business until the end of the season.

But administrators Wilson Field will close the relegated club if they believe the Black and Whites cannot be kept going for the next seven games.

"We are in very close contact with the administrators and will stay in regular contact," said a spokesman for the SPL.

Gretna have been in administration since 12 March, after benefactor Brooks Mileson withdrew his financial support.

And, following the automatic 10-point penalty for doing so, the club were relegated after losing at St Mirren at the weekend.

SPL cash advances have allowed Gretna to stay functional, but 22 players were made redundant last week, along with six community coaches.

The club have since pulled out of the reserves league due to a player shortage, giving the SPL a fresh problem at that level.

Gretna have seven matches remaining in what has been a dismal first season in the top flight.

And real doubts remain about the club's ability to see out those fixtures.

A mere 1,020 fans turned out when Inverness last played Gretna at Fir Park.

At the time it was the lowest-ever attendance at a Premier League game - a record which was beaten when just 501 watched Gretna host Dundee United on 6 March.
