Wadsworth proud of beaten Gretna

Gretna caretaker manager Mick Wadsworth
Wadsworth thought his side had done well against Celtic

Gretna caretaker manager Mick Wadsworth was full of praise for his team after the 3-0 defeat to Celtic at Almondvale.

"They showed great spirit and we were in the game for long spells," he told BBC Sport. "I'm proud of them because they've been through a tough period.

"We had two good chances at 1-0 - Brendan McGill went close and it looked easier for Nicky Deverdics to score.

"We were solid and the guys knew what they were trying to do defensively and they all worked really hard."

With the club in administration and almost certain to be relegated, Wadsworth said he would give the club's young players a chance to shine.

"Our focus is to get to the last game of the season and compete as best we can," he said.

"We don't want to go out with a whimper.

"And we will change the team. I've told the lads they'll get games and a chance to show what they are capable of."

Wadsworth added that he doubted he would be at the club next season, since Gretna's survival counts on whether new owners can be found.

And while he expects Chris Innes to return next week after the skipper failed to find another club, Wadsworth admitted that he was "very disappointed " that Aurelien Collin and Mickael Buscher are exercising their right to leave.

Physio Kenny Crichton has joined Falkirk and injured Uruguayan midfielder Fabian Yantorno also wants away after it emerged that the club could not afford to pay for his treatment.
