David Irons thought his side matched Rangers early on |
David Irons has urged his Gretna side to throw off their nice-guy image after their latest heavy defeat in the SPL. "I'm not saying we have to be ugly, but we have got to be a bit more resilient," the head coach said after the 4-0 defeat by SPL leaders Rangers.
"We need to stop being the nice wee Gretna that are conceding goals.
"But Rangers are one of the best 32 teams in Europe and, for the first half in particular, we have done really well and we've got to learn from that."
Irons thought bad luck had played a part in four goals ending up behind goalkeeper Greg Fleming.
"Craig Fleming has lost four goals again but not had a great deal to do," Irons told BBC Sport.
"In the first half, we more than matched Rangers, we have passed the ball about and created a couple of chances that just needed a bit more confidence.
"The first goal took a wicked deflection, which seems to be the story of our life at the moment, and the second goal killed us.
"But I don't think there were four goals in it by a long way."
