Yantorno is a surprise summer signing for Davie Irons' side |
Gretna manager Davie Irons is delighted to welcome Uruguayan Fabian Yantorno to Raydale - and believes he can eventually be a Premiership success. "Fabian has played for both the Uruguayan Under-20 and Under-19 teams so he's obviously got something about him," Irons told the News of the World.
"If Fabian can come in and do a job for us he might attract some interest.
"If that means him moving to a Premiership club then it shows he's done well here."
Yantorno - who was eligible to sign due to holding an Italian passport - has impressed Gretna so far with his pre-season displays and feels he has settled in well since arriving from Uruguayan First Division side Miramar Misiones.
"It is my ambition to play in the Premiership, but first I want to do well for Gretna. After that only time will tell whether I'm good enough to play in England.
"I did have opportunities to play in Mexico or Argentina. But once Gretna gave me the opportunity to come to Scotland I wanted to experience life here," the 24-year-old said.
Gretna have surprised fans with their South American signing, and Irons hopes Yantorno can augment the squad which squeezed into the SPL on the final day of the Division One season.
"Fabian's settled in immediately, but on the park there is still work to be done. It will take him a little while to get used to the way we play.
"But the early signs have been good and he has made a good impression already."
