Northern Ireland under-21 boss Roy Millar is set to give Gretna midfielder Brian Gilfillan a run in Tuesday's game against Scotland at the Oval.

The 20-year-old Cowdenbeath-born player qualifies through his grandparents and his selection is welcomed by the Scottish Third Division side.

"We are excited about Brian bringing a first player honour to the Gretna club," said chairman Ron McGregor.

"A number of fans and officials intend to travel to Belfast to watch him."

Gilfillan started his footballing life as a trainee with Inverness Caly before playing for his home town club and then Gretna.

''Brian has proved to be an excellent signing since his joined us in September,'' said McGregor.

''He is very versatile, and can play defence or up front. He has scored five goals for us so far.''
