Grays have signed defender Jon Ashton on a free transfer from Conference rivals Rushden & Diamonds. The 24-year-old, transfer-listed by Diamonds boss Garry Hill earlier this month, has signed a two-year deal.
Ashton, who can also play in midfield, began his career at Leicester City, but started just three games for the Foxes.
He moved to Oxford in 2003 after an initial loan spell, and spent nearly three years with the U's before moving to Nene Park last summer.
