Payne scored his first goal for the Gills against Stockport last season
Gillingham midfielder Jack Payne has praised the side's strong start to their League Two campaign but admits it could have been even better.
The Gills conceded an injury time equaliser at Barnet on Tuesday to put an end to their 100% start.
"At the start of the season if you'd have said we would win two and draw one we would have taken it," Payne told BBC Radio Kent.
"A point's good but it should have been all three."
The 19-year-old added: "This will be a very good point if we take all three on Saturday."
Payne notched only his second ever career goal with a super strike from 25-yards against the Bees and says he is enjoying the more advanced role he is playing in this season.
"I normally sit in front of the back four but it's something the gaffer has spoken about that I need to bring goals into my game. I don't get many but I'm working on it in training and hopefully that will come off."
