Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler says it could be a few weeks before he finds a suitable replacement for injured striker Adam Birchall.
The 26-year-old will be out for six months after injuring his knee in a pre-season game against Welling.
Hessenthaler told BBC Radio Kent: "Whether it's this week or next week we'll have to wait and see. It may not be for a couple of weeks.
"It's not easy. We'll have to see where we go from here."
He added: "We lost 'Birch' and there's a void there. That will be an area where we need to bring someone in."
