Gillingham manager Ronnie Jepson has signed striker Bas Savage on a three-month deal with the possibility of his earning a longer contract. The 24-year-old has been without a club since being released by Bristol City during the summer.
But Jepson has played down fears about Savage's goalscoring record - just one league goal from 28 starts.
"On his day, Bas can cause problems, like he did against us last year for City," Jepson told BBC Radio Kent.
"I spoke to Steve Coppell at Reading about him, and Steve speaks highly of him. Bas has been inconsistent, but he gives me a different option up front."
