Jepson says squad is good enough
Ronnie Jepson
Jepson took caretaker charge of the team earlier this week
Caretaker boss Ronnie Jepson has insisted that Gillingham's squad is good enough to keep them in League One.

He told BBC Radio Kent: "The chairman is flying to Scotland trying to keep the club afloat. There's no point in me asking for a few quid to buy players!

"But if we get the squad back to fitness, and maintain the spirit collectively, I think we've got more than enough to stay in this league.

"The players have underachieved, and they'll be first to acknowledge it."

Hopefully the club will be a bit healthier come the summer

Jepson added: "There'll be no stone unturned in the way I want to take the club forward and maintain our status in the league.

"Hopefully the club will be a bit healthier come the summer."

Meanwhile, a Gills fans' group is launching a campaign to help the struggling League One side strengthen their squad.

The Friends of Gillingham FC will have collection buckets for their "Sign a Striker" appeal at Saturday's game with Hartlepool, and hope to raise 20,000.

"It's nice to see a group of people working hard trying to do things their own way without any strings attached," club chairman Paul Scally told BBC Radio Kent.

"I applaud them, and I think everybody should give them their support."
