Jepson took caretaker charge of the team earlier this week |
Caretaker boss Ronnie Jepson has insisted that Gillingham's squad is good enough to keep them in League One. He told BBC Radio Kent: "The chairman is flying to Scotland trying to keep the club afloat. There's no point in me asking for a few quid to buy players!
"But if we get the squad back to fitness, and maintain the spirit collectively, I think we've got more than enough to stay in this league.
"The players have underachieved, and they'll be first to acknowledge it."

Jepson added: "There'll be no stone unturned in the way I want to take the club forward and maintain our status in the league. "Hopefully the club will be a bit healthier come the summer."
Meanwhile, a Gills fans' group is launching a campaign to help the struggling League One side strengthen their squad.
The Friends of Gillingham FC will have collection buckets for their "Sign a Striker" appeal at Saturday's game with Hartlepool, and hope to raise 20,000.
"It's nice to see a group of people working hard trying to do things their own way without any strings attached," club chairman Paul Scally told BBC Radio Kent.
"I applaud them, and I think everybody should give them their support."
