Ian Bogie rages at sloppy Gateshead defensive display
Bogie's side were 2-0 up at half-time at the Arena but ended up losing 3-2
Gateshead boss Ian Bogie has demanded a defensive improvement in the return leg after Saturday's FA Trophy semi-final first-leg 3-2 defeat at Darlington.
Mistakes from Paul Farman and Carl Jones set up two of Darlington's three goals, and a free-kick conceded on the edge of the box led to the equaliser.
"We've got to make sure we stop giving away absolutely pathetic free-kicks," Bogie told BBC Newcastle.
"We have to take responsibility and defend properly, which we haven't."
Bogie added: "I'm bitterly disappointed with the goals we've conceded. They were absolutely dreadful goals to concede at this level."
The Tynesiders were 2-0 up at half time thanks to goals from Nathan Fisher and Adam Rundle, before crumbling in the second to concede from Marc Bridge-Wilkinson and a brace from Liam Hatch.
Darlington will think they've got the ascendancy now
Gateshead boss Ian Bogie
"To be 2-0 up at half time, we said it was only a quarter of the tie, so nothing's won.
"And nothing's lost at this stage. We still have a big game to be played next weekend.
"Darlington will think they've got the ascendancy now, having got the three goals in the second half but we showed in the first half that we're more than capable of ripping any team apart.
"We look forward to the return tie. Hopefully we'll get the Gateshead supporters behind us and really take the game to Darlington."
