Wales international Simon Davies will miss the remainder of the season after having surgery on a foot injury.

The Fulham midfielder has suffered ill-affects of a previous stress fracture and is set to miss Wales' 2010 World Cup qualifier in Azerbaijan on 6 June.

"Simon Davies has been operated on and will be out for the rest of the season which is a major blow for us," said Fulham manager Roy Hodgson.

"He has been complaining about his foot for a while but has played through it."

The 29-year-old has played in every Fulham game in the Premier League this season but missed their victory over Stoke City because of his foot problem and will now be absent for their four remaining fixtures.

Davies, Fulham's 2008 Player of the Year, is also set to miss Wales' friendly with Estonia in Llanelli on 29 May and their qualifying trip to Baku in June.

The 57-cap international joins Wales captain Craig Bellamy on the doubtful list for Wales' summer games, while West Ham defender Danny Gabbidon is a long-term absentee.

But Wales boss John Toshack is boosted by the news Gabbidon's Hammers team-mate Jack Collison is back in full training after recovering from a knee injury.

Hodgson told Fulham's website: "His problem has exacerbated in recent weeks so much so that we sent him for a scan.

"It's a former stress fracture which has been accumulating over all the games he has played.

"Simon Davies, in the time I've been here, hasn't missed a game.

"We're talking somewhere in the region of 50 games where he has been playing every week, never missing a training session - I think it's just one of those things that can develop."

"I know that he might not be a so-called star in that he does not have a high profile but I've been in football so long and I've worked with many high profile players that doesn't impress me anymore.
