Fulham boost Coleman

Fulham assistant boss Steve Kean said his side had given ill manager Chris Coleman the perfect tonic with the 3-0 FA Cup victory over West Ham.

Coleman missed the fith-round replay with an infection but his side went through with goals from Brian McBride, Barry Hayles and Luis Boa Morte.

Kean said: "Chris woke up ill and he was advised to rest.

"We said the biggest pick-me-up would be playing Manchester United. I'm sure it brought a smile back to his face."

He added: "I think everybody could see that for the majority of the first half West Ham had all the pressure.

"But the boys squeezed up much higher on them in the second half and pinned them in."

The result ended a run of four matches without a win for Fulham, who lost to Premiership strugglers Wolves last weekend.

Kean revealed that Coleman had demanded a reaction in a subsequent team meeting.

He said: "The standards we've set have been poor of late. We watched the horrible goals we conceded against Wolves and worked hard on the training ground."
