May is under pressure after a poor start to the season
Falkirk manager Eddie May has no idea if he will have money to spend to strengthen his struggling side.
"I've never been aware that there is one penny available in January," said May, as reports suggest chairman Martin Ritchie is ready to release funds.
"People have said about half a million, but I have never had one conversation with anybody at the football club in terms of an actual figure.
"All I've made them aware of is that we could do with more players."
Ritchie has admitted he may not have given May enough money following the summer departure of 14 players.
And the Bairns are stranded at the foot of the Scottish Premier League, with just four points from 10 games.

May's problems have intensified with the news that Jackie McNamara is out until Christmas with a knee injury and Burton O'Brien will take two weeks longer to overcome a stomach injury.
Striker Kjartan Finnbogason has also joined Thomas Scobbie on the sidelines with a knee problem.
"They gave us what they thought they had and might have thought it was going to be enough," added May, referring to his spending before the start of the season.
"Obviously it's not, and if there is money available, we'll look at it. If there's not, we'll just have to get on with it."
May has brought Portuguese forward Pedro Moutinho back to the club for a second spell and the 30-year-old will go straight into the squad for Sunday's home clash with Celtic.
Former Southampton and West Brom defender Pele, 31, is training with the club but May will not rush into a deal.
"If he can improve us he will come in," he explained. "If not we will keep on searching players at the level we can afford.
"As I said before, how much quality and how many players, I don't know how much has been put on the table.
"I can only suggest what we need and it's up to them to get the level of investment to bring these players in."
