First and foremost our aim is to stay in the Premier League. If we do that, that will be a success for this club.

That's always been the objective in the five years I've been here.

People say it was a bad season last time but reaching a semi final, a cup final and finishing 10th in the league wasn't that bad.

I knew money would be tight when I came in, so we have to make sure anyone coming into the squad is the right person.

My main strength as a youth coach has been helping players reach their potential and do what they're good at.

Falkirk fans didn't know whether to laugh or cry last season as they came perilously close to being relegated but also reached their first Scottish Cup final in 12 years and consequently qualified for Europe for the first time ever.

Sadly for the Bairns, that particular foray ended in ignominy at the first hurdle with that defeat by Vaduz of Liechtenstein. I took in the first leg of that tie as BBC Radio Scotland's commentator on the night and, though it was very early in the season, the signs suggested this could be another tough campaign for Falkirk.

They have a very young squad, with not a great deal of depth to it, and I'm afraid I foresee another relegation scrap ahead.

That said, their new manager, Eddie May, will bring his own approach and ideas to the side and I like the look of the young attacking midfielder he's brought in on loan from Burnley, Alex McDonald.

But Robert Olejnik looked shaky in goals in the Europa League tie and the team would definitely benefit from the addition of a more reliable keeper - I think they may need latest signing Josh Wagenaar to be that man.

WHAT YOU SAY

Overall, the squad is more balanced than last year and we have competition for most places in the first team. I think the majority of the other teams will be surprised at the more direct and attacking style Eddie May will make Falkirk play.

MY SPORT: DEBATE

We'll finish eighth, hopefully, ahead of Killie, St Mirren, Hamilton and St Johnstone. A couple of Auld Firm scalps and another great cup run would do nicely.

With us only staying up on the final day of the season, most people think we will struggle. However, I think we could surprise a few and finish higher than predicted.
