Patrick Cregg has warned Falkirk that they must increase their offer of a new contract or he will look for a new club at the end of the season.

"My deal is up in the summer and I don't know if I will be here next season," said the midfielder after Sunday's 1-0 defeat by Celtic.

"We were negotiating up until last month and I don't know if that is their final offer.

"If they are not going to pay me what I deserve, I will look elsewhere."

Irishman Cregg joined Falkirk from Arsenal two years ago.

The best thing for Patrick Cregg is to stay here for another season, get the headlines and, you never know, Celtic might come in for him

And the 21-year-old, who was voted man of the match as Falkirk gained no reward for a fine performance, had a special motivation to perform against Celtic.

"I am a boyhood Celtic fan and my ambition is to play for them," he said, stressing his admiration for Falkirk's head coach.

"I don't have a problem with John Hughes. I would not say a bad word about him - he is a great manager and a great man - it is the club."

Hughes thought that Cregg would be best advised to remain at Falkirk for the time being.

"Patrick is one that I want to keep at the club," said the head coach.

"I want to build my team around him, but money does not grow on trees.
