John Hughes said Gow could spur Falkirk on to greater things |
Falkirk manager John Hughes restated his desire to keep striker Alan Gow for the rest of the season after his late strike in the 1-0 win over Dunfermline. Rangers and Wolves have had bids turned down for the striker and Hughes said he wanted him to stay until the summer.
"To do that with all the speculation there has been last week, I'm really pleased for him," said Hughes.
"We're in no hurry to do business. We have a semi-final to play and we're trying to stay in that top six."
Hughes said Gow could still play a significant role in Falkirk's season.
"If he plays his part in getting us to a final and keeping us in the top six, then it's worth its weight in gold," he said.
"There were two or three English Premiership clubs here watching him today and if I was Alan Gow, I would stay at Falkirk and produce the goods.
"I think he's going to get his international recognition - even if he decides to leave at the end of the season, instead of being a 500,000 player, I think he will be a 2m player.
"Then he can go and negotiate a contract on the back of that."
Peter Schmeichel's son Kasper played in goal for Falkirk, following his loan move from Manchester City.
The youngster was called on to pull off a fine save just before the break to deny former Scotland striker Stevie Crawford, which won the praise of his new manager.
"For him to come in and make his debut and have the save that he did on the stroke of half-time was fantastic and I'm absolutely delighted for him," Hughes added.
