Falkirk head coach John Hughes felt his side failed to match Motherwell's determination at Fir Park. "I don't think the referee had a good game, but it is not his fault we lost," said Hughes after the 4-2 defeat.
"Motherwell deserved to beat us, they were hungrier than us and were hurting after last week.
"I am not going to criticise the players too much, but they need to show me they have the character to fight back from this."
Falkirk had Anthony Stokes sent off for two yellow cards, the second of which came after a dive in the penalty area.
"Stokesy showed a little bit of inexperience in trying to con the referee," added Hughes.
"I didn't think it was a penalty. I have to be honest and say I think Stokes did try to dive.
"But I don't think his first yellow card was a booking and the referee is just bringing it on top of himself."
