Falkirk have offered striker Darryl Duffy a new two-and-a-half-year contract extension in a bid to beat off renewed interest from Hull City. Bairns head coach John Hughes has been warned to expect a new offer for the 21-year-old from the Coca-Cola Championship club in January.
"Darryl is out of contract at the end of the season," said Hughes.
"But, if he stays at Falkirk and scores the goals that keep us in the SPL, that would be worth its weight in gold."
The Scottish Premier League outfit rejected a 175,000 bid from Hull in the summer, while Watford, Cardiff City and Sheffield Wednesday are also reported to be interested.
But Hughes insists he is under no pressure to sell the Scotland Under-21 international.
"First and foremost, we want to see what Darryl wants to do and are hoping he wants to stay here," he said.
"We want to keep Darryl and I would like to think he will be here for the next couple of years, but it's his decision - simple as that.
"I don't think we have to sell anyone, we are not in a position where we need to sell anyone - we don't need the money. We are not flush, but we are OK financially.
"I would like to think he will be here for another two-and-a-half years, who knows."
Hughes is optimistic any overture for Duffy will be turned down.
"It might get taken out of my hands, but I very much doubt it because I do all the contracts here and do the agent work," he said.
"If there is anything coming in or going out, it is my decision and I would not have it any other way.
"I have worked very closely with the board of directors and it's all a case of us sitting down."
