David Moyes thrilled by Jermaine Beckford's Everton form

Moyes pleased for improving Beckford

Everton manager David Moyes hailed match-winner Jermaine Beckford after the striker scored both Everton goals in their 2-0 win over Sunderland.

"I'm delighted for Jermaine Beckford, scoring two goals in a Premier League game is great," Moyes told BBC Sport.

"We always knew he could score goals if we gave him the right opportunities because he is a goalscorer, that is what he does.

"He's got a lot of work to do still, but today was really good."

The former Leeds striker found the net twice in the first half to lift Everton further away from Premier League relegation danger.

Beckford's double took his tally after slow start to his Everton career to eight goals.

I hope I and the players can change people's minds about this team

The first came when Beckford to sneak through on to a pass from Leon Osman and fire in a shot which Titus Bramble diverted in and the second he slotted in after a solo run from Mikel Arteta.

Everton move up to 10th in the Premier League table and Moyes believes his side have turned the corner after victory here and the FA Cup fourth round victory over Chelsea last Saturday.

"I hope I and the players can change people's minds about this team. We need to only concentrate on the next game, but what has happened in the past eight days or so hopefully has given everyone a boost.

"We started the game well and I think we deserved it overall, definitely. We know Sunderland are a good team because of what they've achieved already this season so we had to be careful, but it was really pleasing to see us keep a clean sheet as well as look a threat up front too.

"If I'm not satisfied for any reason it's because we should have scored one of the three or four chances we had at 2-0 to wrap the game up, because we had some good ones and on another day it could have been 3-0 or 4-0."
