Everton midfielder Dan Gosling has ruptured a cruciate knee ligament and will be out for up to nine months.

The 20-year-old was hurt in an accidental clash with Wolves keeper Marcus Hahnemann in Saturday's draw.

Gosling had a scan and Everton physio Mick Rathbone told the club's website: "Our worst fears have been confirmed."

Boss David Moyes added: "I'm really disappointed for Dan. He's been making great progress and we look forward to having him back as soon as possible."

Gosling had only been on the field a few minutes after coming on as an 83rd-minute substitution for Leon Osman when he collided with Hahnemann while attempting to score a winner in the 0-0 draw at Molineux.

The England Under-21 international has scored three goals in 17-first-team appearances for the Toffees this season.

Everton have been hampered by injuries throughout the campaign with Mikel Arteta, Phil Jagielka and Victor Anichebe only recently returned from long-term lay-offs.

Phil Neville, Tony Hibbert, Joseph Yobo and Leon Osman have all endured lengthy spells on the sidelines this season as well.
