Final place not enough - Neville

Phil Neville
Neville aims to win his first silverware as Everton captain in the FA Cup final

Everton captain Phil Neville has said the club must go on and win the FA Cup after setting up a final with Chelsea.

The midfielder won the cup three times with former club Manchester United, who the Toffees beat 4-2 on penalties on Sunday to book a return to Wembley.

"We've got to win the trophy - we need winners' medals," Neville told BBC Radio Merseyside. "I've got winners' medals in the past.

"It would be great to win and bring some silverware back to this club."

He added: "I've also got losers medals but those are in drawers tucked away. It's only my winners' medals that are on show - so that shows what they mean to me."

Neville admitted leading his side out at Wembley against his former club was a special feeling but to do it again in the FA Cup final would be even better.

We beat Liverpool, Aston Villa, Middlesbrough and Macclesfield - now we've beaten the best side in the world

"It's one of the proudest moments of my career to lead a side out at Wembley, and now as an FA Cup finalist," he continued.

"They always say the next achievement is the best and it feels like that.

"We beat Liverpool, Aston Villa, Middlesbrough and Macclesfield - now we've beaten the best side in the world.

"It's just a proud moment."

Although the game finished goalless after 120 minutes, Neville revealed a motivational speech from manager David Moyes had inspired the Blues to victory.

"On Tuesday (before the game) the first thing he said was 'we're going there to win, to attack, to score goals and run forward'," added Neville.

"It gave us confidence and from Tuesday onwards it was good."
