Howard backs striker Jo to shine

Jo scored three goals in 18 appearances at Manchester City

Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard was full of praise for Brazilian striker Jo after he scored two goals on his debut against Bolton on Saturday.

The striker had a difficult time at Manchester City before his loan move to Goodison Park and Howard says he has settled quickly with the Blues.

"He's as talented as they come," Howard told BBC Radio Merseyside.

"We've been really upbeat with him in training and he seems like a really good guy and he got his goals."

The 3-0 win over Bolton on Saturday ended a great week for the Blues after they beat Liverpool in an FA Cup fourth round replay.

It also marked the perfect start to the Everton career of Jo, 21.

The crowd is behind him so if that can last for a while we'll be happy

United States international Howard believes the new striker was just unlucky with they way things turned out at the City of Manchester Stadium.

"The top players come to England to play," Howard continued.

"Sometimes it comes off for them right away and sometimes it doesn't. It will really make a man of you playing in England.

"Maybe he needed a move or a change of scenery. He's got that and hopefully we can give him the support and confidence he needs.

"The crowd is behind him so if that can last for a while we'll be happy."
