Goodlass and Johnson on the derby

Tim Howard is still searching for his first clean sheet of the season
Everton entertain Liverpool in the 208th Merseyside derby at Goodison Park on Saturday.

Liverpool are chasing a seventh win in nine visits across Stanley Park, while the hosts are still searching for their first home win of the season.

You can full match commentary on BBC Radio Merseyside 95.8 FM, 1485 AM and DAB. Coverage begins at 1130 BST.

Here BBC Radio Merseyside match-day summarisers, former Everton winger Ronny Goodlass and former Liverpool striker David Johnson give their views on the match.

Goodlass believes the defensive solidity, which had served the Blues so well in previous seasons under David Moyes, must be rediscovered for his former side to win the match.

"Every game we go out in at the moment, we seem to give the first goal away.

"You then have to score two goals to win and that then puts pressure on the forwards."

The success we have had in the last few years in based on a good defensive unit, Tim Howard has even looked shaky in the last few games

Former Rverton winger Ronny Goodlass

Goodlass believes the whole team are culpable for the sides failure to register a clean sheet since the match against Derby County last April.

"The success we have had in the last few years in based on a good defensive unit, Tim Howard has even looked shaky in the last few games."

Johnson, who has the distinction of scoring the winning goal in a derby match for both sides, believes Liverpool can profit at the expense of the Blues' underperforming back-line.

Steven Gerrard is one strike away from his 100th goal for Liverpool, while Robbie Keane, the club's second most expensive signing ever is yet to score for Rafa Benitez's men.

"I think it's scripted to be honest, I'm not tempting fate but why was Steven Gerrard's goal against Stoke disallowed?

It's a great opportunity for him to become a hero by scoring in his first derby game

Former Liverpool striker David Johnson on Robbie Keane

"I think destiny is saving him to score it against Everton.

"Why hasn't Robbie Keane scored yet? It's a great opportunity for him to become a hero by scoring in his first derby game."

Goodlass believes David Moyes' team selection could be key come kick-off.

"He has a few question marks over certain players especially after the performance at Blackburn.

"You're then looking at who he can bring in and what formation do we play?"
