Everton midfielder Tim Cahill has been ruled out of the rest of the season with a broken metatarsal.
The 28-year-old Australian lasted just 10 minutes against West Ham last Saturday after suffering a recurrence of an old foot injury.
Cahill has aggravated an injury he originally sustained against Sheffield United last season.
"It is disappointing but it happens - I think we can cope," said Everton manager David Moyes.
The news is a major blow to Everton's hopes of beating local rivals Liverpool to the final Champions League place.
Cahill was forced out the final three matches of the 2006-2007 season because of the original injury.
