Everton fans are worried about moving out of Liverpool

The club are in talks about relocating to Kirkby but Wyness told BBC Five Live the fans' concerns about moving out of Liverpool would be considered.

He added: "This option is a good one, in terms of transport links and the financial package, and it's something we thought we must explore further.

"But redeveloping Goodison Park may well be the way ahead in the end."

Shareholders were told at an AGM on Monday that the club had entered into a three-way partnership with supermarket Tesco and Knowsley Council to investigate the possibility of building a new stadium in Kirkby - four miles outside Liverpool.

However, the plans were met with anger at the meeting.

"We know we have to move on," said one shareholder.

"But it would represent the erosion of our fan base. It would be the equivalent of us hoisting the white flag to Liverpool FC that they can 'have the city'."

And contrary to Wyness' view, chairman Bill Kenwright is convinced the club cannot stay at Goodison Park.

"I do not want to be the guy who moves Everton away from Goodison Park," he told the AGM.

"I would love to stay here forever but it is not an financial option for Everton to remain at Goodison Park.

"I have also been told by the council it is absolutely impossible to extend the footprint of the club.
