Everton boss David Moyes fears winger Andy van der Meyde could be out for several weeks with a thigh injury. The Dutchman missed the 4-0 defeat at the hands of Bolton and is very unlikely to recover in time for the 28 December derby against Liverpool.
Moyes told the Everton website: "I think he has got a serious injury.
"He's running but he can still feel the injury. We think it might be a bit longer than we first thought. It looks like a strain at the top of his leg."
Van der Meyde was a 2m signing from Inter Milan in the summer but did not make his debut until October because of a groin injury.
