Everton's Steve Watson has paid tribute to the role played by midfield duo Tim Cahill and Mikel Arteta in helping them reach next season's Champions League. Cahill has been top scorer since his July 2004 arrival from Millwall and he and on-loan Real Sociedad player Arteta have helped Everton to a top-four spot.
"Tim has been brilliant from day one, great around the place and very enthusiastic." said defender Watson.
"We're better when he is around and Mikel has added something else to us."
Arteta joined Everton during the January transfer window when Thomas Gravesen moved to Real Madrid but Watson believes that he has made a huge difference.
"Everyone was disappointed when Tommy Gravesen left but Mikel has done a similar job by getting control of the ball and dictating the play," added Watson, 30.
"He is the man we all look for now in the middle - he never panics on the ball, keeps possession and he has been vital."
