Dunfermline Athletic have confirmed that defender Greg Shields has left East End Park and is poised to join Carolina Railhawks in the USA.
The First Division club's website stated: "He has an offer from USL1 club Carolina Railhawks, which he is seriously considering."
Carolina currently sit top of the 11-team league and are coached by a Scot, Martin Rennie.
Shields said: "It is really too good an opportunity not to accept."
The 32-year-old had two spells with Dunfermline, first joining from Rangers in 1997.
Two years later he was sold to Charlton Athletic for nearly £600,000 and went on to play for Kilmarnock before returning to East End Park in 2004.
