Gary Dempsey insists he does not have a new club |
Irish midfielder Gary Dempsey has made a mystery exit from Scottish Premier League club Dunfermline Athletic. He had been a first-team regular until an ankle injury, but he and manager Davie Hay have refused to comment on the reasons for his departure.
The 24-year-old said: "I've mutually agreed with Dunfermline to cancel my contract. I don't want to go into the reasons behind it.
"I'm going back home to clear my head a bit and work out what I do now."
Former Ireland Under-21 international Dempsey started his career at Everton and spent time at Bray Wanderers and Waterford United in his homeland before moving to East End Park in 2001.
He made 21 appearances this season, the last being a 2-0 defeat by Inverness Caledonian Thistle at the end of January.
His contract was due to end in the summer, but Dempsey insists that he had nothing lined up for next season.
"I'm not sure how long it'll be until I get a club as it will be four weeks until my ankle is okay," he added.
