Georgi Hristov has had cruciate ligament trouble |
Macedonia striker Georgi Hristov will sign for Dunfermline Athletic after the Scottish Premier League club won an appeal for a work permit. The 28-year-old will be with the Pars until at least the end of the season.
His application had originally been turned down because he had not played the required number of international games due to injury problems.
Dunfermline will make a decision on Monday about whether to sign Spanish trialist defender Rafo Navarro.
They are still waiting for a response from MSK Zilina to their bid for Slovakian midfielder Miroslav Barcik.
But it is now looking less likely as the closure of the transfer window approaches.
Former Barnsley striker Hristov had to satisfy the Pars about his fitness after a second knee scan.
Hay believes Hristov could provide the answer to his side's goalscoring problems.
"He was out for a year with cruciate ligaments," said Hay.
"So we have to be careful, but he looks a talented player and his general fitness is good."
Hristov suffered cruciate ligament damage more than six years ago while at Barnsley, who paid a record 1.5m in 1997 for him.
He moved to the Netherlands to play for NEC Nijmegen in 2000 but could find himself back playing in the UK soon.
"We had him over for a bounce game and he did well. He is a good lad and his English is good as well so he should be able to fit in straight away," added Hay.
