Javier Clemente is a vastly experienced manager |
Former Spain boss Javier Clemente hopes to meet Dunfermline early next week to discuss the possibility of taking the vacant manager's job at East End Park. Clemente has told the BBC that the job does interest him and that money will not be a stumbling block.
His representatives are waiting to hear from the club, but a meeting has been pencilled in for next week.
Davie Hay, Stan Ternent, Richard Gough and Neale Cooper are among the others in the running for the post.
Clemente, who was sacked last year by Espanyol, told BBC Scotland Dunfermline met the criteria of the type of club he would be interested in coaching.
"They play in the Premier League and they have good training facilities," he said.
"I have always admired the British style of play.
"Now I'm just waiting for the club to make the next move."
A meeting will take place between Clemente and Dunfermline, BBC Scotland has learned.
It had been thought that Clemente's demands would be outwith the club's reach.
But Pars chairman John Yorkston said: "We have been given indications that money is not the main thing." Former Livingston boss Hay and Ternent, who has just left Burnley, remain the favourites for the job.
Gough, looking to land his first managerial post, wants to appoint the vastly experienced Archie Knox as his right-hand man.
Other possibles for the final person being considered are present Dunfermline coach Sandy Clark, who previously managed Hearts and St Johnstone and former Republic of Ireland striker Frank Stapleton.
