Dundee Utd boss Peter Houston bullish over Athens test

Houston says Dundee United fear no-one at Tannadice

Dundee United manager Peter Houston is pleased his side will be playing AEK Athens at home in the first leg of the Europa League play-off.

United will host the Greek outfit on 19 August at Tannadice, with the return seven days later, but Houston expects a difficult challenge.

"First and foremost, we were never going to get an easy tie when we saw who was in our pot," said Houston.

"We're delighted to be starting the tie at home. It's not going to be easy."

The Greek side, who last won their domestic league in 1994, have a good record against Scottish opposition.

They inflicted a 3-0 aggregate defeat over Rangers in a Champions League qualifier in 1995 and Hibs lost 5-2 over two legs against AEK in the Uefa Cup in 2001.

Despite those Scottish reverses, Houston is confident that United can hold their own against the Greeks.

At Tannadice, we fear no-one, and going over to Athens with something to hold on to would be something we would like to do

"At Tannadice we fear no-one and we'd like to be going over to Athens with something to hold on to," Houston said.

"We're under no illusions, it's not going to be an easy game.

"It can be intimidating in Athens, but I've got a list of their squad players already, but we know we have a very tough tie."
