Dundee United defender Paul Dixon signs new contract
Paul Dixon has extended his contract at Tannadice until 2012
Dundee United defender Paul Dixon has signed a new contract to keep him at Tannadice until 2012.
Dixon was signed by former United boss Craig Levein from Dundee and earned his first Scotland call-up for this week's friendly with Czech Republic.
"He has great pace, technical ability and his work-rate is second to none," said United manager Peter Houston.
Left-back Dixon, 23, said: "I look forward to what I'm confident will be a successful period for the club."
Dixon has impressed at Tannadice since joining the club from their city rivals in June 2008.
He was an unused substitute in Scotland's friendly win at Hampden on Wednesday; Levein's first game as the national manager.
Houston, who is also Levein's assistant with Scotland, predicted Dixon had a bright future at club and international level.
"Paul was probably signed with one eye on the future but he quickly adapted to the demands of playing at a higher level in the SPL and soon established himself as an indispensable first-team player," said the United boss.
"His recent call-up to the Scotland squad was fully merited and thoroughly deserved.
"Paul's work-rate and attitude is second to none and this, coupled with the fact that he is a local lad and a United fan, has also made him a popular player with supporters."
