Houston could be in the running for the United job if results go his way
Dundee United chairman Stephen Thompson says he has resolved his differences with the Scottish Football Association over Craig Levein's appointment.
Thompson had criticised the parent body for their handling of negotiations over compensation after it chose Levein as the new Scotland coach.
"There's no war any more," Thompson told BBC Scotland.
"I have spoken to Gordon Smith and George Peat and it's sorted. A few things got blown out of proportion."
Thompson had some strong words for the national body in the lead up to Levein's appointment, but he is now happy with his relations with SFA president Peat and chief executive Smith.
"I just got frustrated with the process and at losing our best manager since Jim McLean," the United chairman admitted.

United were due £250,000 in compensation as part of Levein's contract and Thompson had been frustrated by arrangements between his club and the SFA.
However, he now says: "It is 100% sorted. We are quite happy."
Meanwhile, Thompson repeated his desire to take time before making any decision over a replacement for Levein.
Levein's assistant, Peter Houston, has been appointed caretaker, but the new Scotland coach is hopeful that his former second in command can join him in the national set-up as a part-time scout.
Thompson would not be drawn on whether Houston would win the job should the side perform while during his time in charge.
"There will be no quick decisions," said the chairman. "We will take our time and see how things go.
"Peter is more than capable of putting together a team.
"I have had quite a few agents and quite a few people have applied for the job.
"But I will take my time to reflect on things."
Levein had revamped the club's youth system and taken United's training to St Andrews University, but Thompson did not think there was a danger that the improvements would be lost.
"The youth set-up will be here for years to come and we have a 10-year lease for the training facilities," said the chairman.
Thompson added that he would "not be taking any risks" with his choice of replacement for Levein.
