David McCracken joined United as a youth |
Dundee United central defender David McCracken has been told he is free to find another club. And manager Craig Levein hopes to sign a replacement next week for the player who is out of contract in the summer.
"I'll be working flat out to try to bring somebody in," said Levein. "There are a number of things I'm working on.
"I have a good number of players who can play in central defence and it was better to tell David now and let him find a club."
The 25-year-old will not be in the United squad to face Kilmarnock on Saturday after being told that he will not be offered a new contract in June.
The news could lead to interest from a number of rival clubs in the Scottish Premier League, with Motherwell thought to be among those interested in the former Scotland Under-21 international.
McCracken, who came through the youth system at Tannadice, has made 189 appearances for United.
