 Goodwillie celebrates a goal for Scotland Under-19s |
Dundee United striker David Goodwillie has signed a three-and-a-half-year contract extension, extending his stay at Tannadice until May 2010. Chairman Eddie Thompson said: "David is an exciting young player who appears able to score goals at every level.
"At 17 he is already knocking loudly on the door of the first team.
"He has the potential to become a real fans' favourite and star of the future. This is why I am delighted to secure his services on a longer term deal."
In March 2006 Goodwillie became the youngest ever player to score in the SPL when he scored in a defeat to Hibernian at Easter Road.
The teenager recently scored four goals for Scotland U19s in the Uefa qualifying games against Bosnia-Herzegovina and Germany.
Goodwillie said: "I'm delighted to follow the footsteps of Scotland U19 team-mates Garry Kenneth and Greg Cameron and extend my contract at Dundee United for a longer period.
"I'm very happy at this club and with the standard of coaching which I've received throughout my time here.
"I'll continue to develop here and I'm looking forward to challenging for a regular first team place."
